The Cougar Cup selection and seeding committee uses seeding as a method
to help form the divisions and groupings within the tournament in an
attempt to have a competitive balance within each division and to avoid
teams from the same league playing each other. Typically, teams are
grouped into three team divisions and will play three round robin games
against each of the other teams in their division.
Tournament seedings are based upon information available to the
tournament seeding and selection committee at that time. In order to
assist in this process, teams are required to update the Tournament
Administration of their "records and results", which includes
their opponents and scores for all of their games leading up to the
tournament.
When seeding, the committee makes every effort to be as accurate as
possible, but it is not our intent to have the teams perfectly seeded in
each division. Other factors, besides competitive play, form part of the
seeding process. The following factors are considered in determining
seedings:
- Teams' Record
- Opponents played
- Competitive nature of their home league
- Seedings are adjusted to avoid teams from the same leagues playing
against each other in the round robin or in early playoff rounds, who
have played against each other previous to the tournament.
