Cougars Almost Steal One From West Ferris
GLOUCESTER COUGARS PEEWEE B1 FINALISTS TO WEST FERRIS WAL-MART IN BELL SENSPLEX HOUSE LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS FEB. 20-22
The Gloucester Cougars Peewee B1 team lost 0-1 in double overtime to the West Ferris WAL-MART team from North Bay. There were 16 teams divided into 4 pools for round robin play. The team started by getting a 2-0 win, goals scored by Dexter Martin and Connor Egan, over the Kanata Spartans, followed by a 1-1 tie, goal scored by Sam Robillard, against the Nepean Lightening. The Cougars tied the West Ferris WAL-MART team 1-1 in their third round robin game to finish second in Pool 3 and secure the 2nd wild card position. They then went on to beat the third place Kitchener Tigers 1-0, goal scored by Nicholas Seale, and the Kanata Bulldogs 1-0, goal scored by Sam Robillard, in the semi finals to meet the WAL-MART team again in the Championship game. WAL-MART had beaten the first place Blackburn Stingers in their semi-final game. Goalie Rory Taylor only let in 3 goals in 6 games, including the winning double overtime goal in which the Cougars were down one man on a power play. The entire team's determination and heart had them playing together with their best effort this season to finish as finalists. MVP's went to Connor Egan, Nicholas Seale and Rory Taylor.
