Atom B WINS
Atom B WINS Orleans Tournament!
Submitted by: Ken Benson
On
Remembrance Day, Canadians honoured those who fought in battle for the
freedoms we enjoy today. That weekend will also be remembered by the
legion of Cougar Atom B fans who watched their favourite team battle
hard and win the Orleans Atom B tournament. In the first game the team
did not put its best foot forward but still managed to come away with a
2-0 victory over the Osgood-Rideau Roadrunners. In the second game, the
team started slow again, spotting the host Orleans squad the early lead
before turning it on in the final period to come away with an 8-3 win.
The roll continued in the final match of the round robin as the Cougars
blanked the other Osgood team 5-0, assuring the team a birth in the
semi finals. A perennial nemesis, the Metcalfe Jets, was the
opposition. The Cougars turned on its jets and came away with a
convincing 4-1 win and a birth in the finals against Arnprior. Almost
every scouting report indicated that the Arnprior team would have no
trouble declawing the Cougars. Spearheaded, however, by the stellar
goaltending of Steven Clark, the Cougars fought the favourites to a
thrilling 0-0 tie at the end of regulation. Around the midway mark of
the overtime frame, Graham Costain's shot from the high slot found the
back of the net to give the Cougars the stunning 1-0 overtime win and
ownership of the hardware.
Thanks to all the fans who cheered the team on and congrats to the Cougars!
